Complaining – 6 Action Steps You Can Take Right Now to Stop

Complaining - 6 Action Steps You Can Take Right Now to Stop

Many of us have the habit of complaining, but today I share 6 action steps that can help you stop. We are living through a great pandemic right now, and unfortunately, this is something we can’t change. The Covid-19 infection rate is going to have to run its course. Therefore, since we will be on lockdown a bit longer, it’s an excellent time to show an attitude of thanksgiving while we’re home self-reflecting.

When we self-examine our hearts, do we find it filled with complaining and murmuring instead of thanksgiving? We’re allowed to feel our feelings, but we must be very cautious when those feelings turn into constant complaining.

Also, don’t allow the media and government entry into your mind during this downtime. Tuning into the news too often provokes feelings of fear.

Some time back, I created a video entitled: 2 WAYS YOU’RE BLOCKING GOD’S BLESSINGS; in it, I share how complaining is one of the areas in our life that blocks God’s blessings. It’s also rooted in fear.

Here are the six action steps you can take for complaining:

1. PRAY AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS

If you have been whining, murmering, and complaining a lot lately, you need to confess it as sin and seek God’s forgiveness. When you navigate through life in this way, it will not reap a harvest of joy and peace. It will, however, reap a harvest of more complaining.

You reap what you sow, so if you have a nasty little habit of doing this, you must address it immediately. The scripture makes it clear, and whenever you keep sowing to the flesh, you’ll reap it good or bad. Complaining pleases the flesh.

Galatians 6:7-9 NIV says, Do not be deceived:Β God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.Β Β Whoever sows to please their flesh,Β from the flesh will reap destruction;Β whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.Β Let us not become weary in doing good,Β for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Let’s reap a good harvest.

Also, whenever you get the urge to complain ongoing, pray about it before you complain about it. Complaining indicates that there’s a better scenario or way to go about something. That’s possible, but seek God for a fresh perspective because He may want you to stay on this path.

When we pray about it, we include spiritual solutions as opposed to directly gratifying our soul and flesh.

2. SOW NEW SEEDS and SET GOALS

After you’ve taken the time to pray for forgiveness, it’s time to sow new seeds and set goals. You must be intentional about breaking the habit/sin of complaining. Just because you prayed about it, doesn’t mean it will instantly disappear.

For example, if you played the same song five times a day for twenty years, will you no longer hear that song (playing in your head) when you stop listening to it? Of course not! You’ll listen to that song non-stop, in your head, because you mediated on it. You feasted off that song for twenty years. It became a part of you as it occupied space in your soul.

Therefore, you’ll need to set goals and sow fresh seeds that allow you to move away from this negative way of thinking and speaking. If you feel stuck in complaining and need help setting goals God’s way and unlocking your purpose, check out the Free Dream Big Goal Setting Guide right here.

3. READ YOUR BIBLE

Never neglect to read the Word. In it contains the prescription for everything we face in this life. Add reading to your goal strategy. Spending time in God’s Word regarding this sin cannot be neglected. When you combine prayer and the living power of scripture, you’ll see the transformation. The Holy Spirit can then guide you into all truth.

Hebrews 4:12 NIV says, For the word of GodΒ is aliveΒ and active.Β Sharper than any double-edged sword,Β it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

STAY IN THE LOOP – NEVER MISS A SOUL TRANSFORMING POST

4. READ GOOD FAITH BASED INSPIRATIONAL MATERIAL

I love and enjoy reading the Holy Bible, but I also take time to read books written by people God prompted to write other books as well. Many Christian authors write great books.

5. WRITE ABOUT BLESSINGS and GOOD THINGS

Grab a notebook, blank sheet of paper, computer, or a journal and get to writing. Over the next seven days, use the prompts below to write out your feelings about the questions asked. Never forget how far God has brought you. He’s done so much for you, therefore give thanks for all that He’s done, doing, and is going to do.

  1. Day 1 – Why are you grateful for salvation (being saved)?
  2. Day 2 – How did God bless you and your family today?
  3. Day 3 – What five things are you most thankful/grateful for, and why?
  4. Day 4 – What are your prayer request, and why?
  5. Day 5 – List 3 situations that God rescued you from.
  6. Day 6 – Has God ever sent help to you in times of need? Please explain.
  7. Day 7 – How has God kept you and your family over the last 12 months?

6. CONSIDER THE SUFFERINGS OF OTHERS

All around the world, people are going through some horrific things. Tests and trials do not mean God has forgotten about them. Just remember the prayers of the righteous availeth much. So, pray for others and empathize with their struggles. Understanding others helps you focus on others as opposed to complaining and whining about:

  • why you hate your job and your boss
  • what your spouse/friend can’t ever seem to do right
  • why they’re making remain stay inside the house
  • why you can’t get your hair or nails done during COVID
  • why you can’t eat the food you want at your favorite restaurant due to coronavirus lockdown
  • why you have to buy the hard toilet tissue due to the supply shortage

I’m sure you get my drift.

7. MEDITATE FOR 20 MINUTES DAILY

If God commands us to meditate day and night on the book of the law, by all means, you can incorporate twenty minutes into your day. If you can’t do this at one time, break it up into increments such as 5 and 10 mins each.

The point I’m making is, if God says it’s possible, then it is. Anything outside of what God says is possible is not of faith. You’re not too busy Soulful. If you are, this means you have no control over your day, and priorities aren’t set correctly.

Time is a gift provided by our Lord, and if we are not good stewards over it, then woe to us as we’re misusing this gift.

If this is something you’re struggling with, surrender your schedule to the Most High and He will provide a way of escape and get you on the right path.

Don’t ever stop having a voice, and if there is something wrong, speak up about it.

Soul Actions:

Make sure you do all of these steps over the next 7 days.

Pray first when you are tempted to complain.

Watch how you communicate your concerns as every concern is not a complaint. It’s about the spirit in which it’s shared.

Did this resonate with you? If so, what are you going to do about your complaining? If this has been a blessing, don’t forget to share this with two friends. Thank you for reading.
