How I use the 12-week year goal-setting process to get results with my goals and systems as a Christian. So many people set goals and never achieve them because they need a plan. The 12-week year system is a simple way to create a plan and achieve your goals to maximize your outputs. In this post, I will show you how it works and how you can use it with spiritual disciplines. So whether you’re looking to lose weight, start a business, or improve your life, please read on.
1. Set realistic goals: Write out your vision for the next three to five years and set achievable and measurable goals within your reach in 12 weeks. Then break down your goals into smaller, more manageable tasks over the 12 weeks into systems.
I decided to read the 12 Week Year by Brian Moran and Michael Lennington and it’s a game changer. I recommend you buy this book if you are serious about making your goals a reality.

The concept is to stop making annual goals. Why? Because you waste a lot of time drifting through the year because there is no urgency. YOu then crunch to meet your obligations at the end of the year when the year is drawing to an end. Brian’s and Michael’s book is an accelerated but realistic goals process because you’ll only set two to three goals during the 12 weeks.
However, I use a hybrid of their system because I continue to set annual, quarterly, and monthly goals but break them down in The 12 Week Year.
For example, the things I want to accomplish in the year have stayed the same because I always break my goals into quarters. But, what makes The 12 Week Year different is that your entire year is 12 weeks so it diminishes annualized thinking.

2. Develop a plan that includes a system:
Create a plan for achieving your goals by breaking them down into 4-week increments. Then take steps each week to reach the goal. Breaking down the goals also leads to a system of tracking and keeping up with where you are in the process. For instance:
Goal: Loose 20 lbs this year (12-weeks)
Research meals and plan them in 4-week increments
Document all meals I eat
Work out with weights and cardio 5 days per week
Drink 80 oz of water daily.
2. Track your progress:
Track and measure your progress weekly with a scoring system to monitor how close you are to reaching your 12-week goals. A score of 100% means you accomplished all of the tasks you set up in the daily/weekly system you set up for the goal. Measure and evaluate to ensure you are staying on track and correct any hiccups so you don’t derail the entire process.

3. Weekly Accountability Meetings (WAM):
The 12 Week Year goal-setting system is huge on accountability. Accountability in the sense of the positive use of it, not bad behavior or consequences.
“Accountability is not consequences, but ownership. It is a character trait, a life stance, a willingness to own your actions and results regardless of the circumstances. The very nature of accountability rests in the understanding that each and every one of us has freedom of choice.” pg 46 Accountability as ownership. Accountability is Biblical:
Accountability is a Biblical principle. We will one day stand for the Lord and give an account for how we used our time and resources for His purposes. Ephesians 4:25 NIV says, Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Romans 14:12 NIV So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
We’re to always remain connected to our brethren in the faith for accountability. When we stay close, our brethren will know what we need and can pray for us. Iron sharpens iron and we will learn and glean more wisdom when we include others.
James 5:16 NIV Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV, As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
4. Celebrate Your Successes and Wins
Celebrate your successes as you reach each milestone. allowing yourself to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and motivating you to keep going. How will you reward yourself when you hit your target goals at the end of 12 weeks? You reward yourself in the 13th week.
5. Adjust Your Plan as Needed:
As you move forward, adjust your plan, strategy, and system as needed so that it continues to reflect where you are in achieving your goal. Feel free to make changes or start over if something needs to be fixed the way you want it to.
Switching from an annual goal plan that’s dragged out over the course of 12 months as opposed to 12 weeks can take time. Therefore, use these initial 12 weeks to familiarize yourself with the strategy and learn what works best for you.
