Have you ever paused to reflect on the profound depths of your existence and expressed gratitude for it? When was the last time you thanked God for the essence that makes you, “you”? The soul He gave His life to redeem. When was the last time you thought deeply about and thanked God for your soul? I mean, like truly showing great appreciation to Him for how He made you in His image as a living soul.
What about diving into some reflection questions to get to the root of how valuable your soul is to the Lord? Have you asked the Lord, “What is the cure for my soul and its purpose?” Many believers never think deeply about their soul life, past salvation, let alone a cure for the soul. But you’re a part of Cure 4 the Soul now, and here, we’re all about spiritual growth and soul life from a sound biblical worldview and perspective.
Our teachings speak explicitly to the Christian business owner, entrepreneur, solopreneur, leader, goal-getter, side hustler, and self-employed due to the unique challenges we face growing an enterprise. We know that Jesus Christ came to cure the soul and transform us through His sanctifying work and power, and we have a dedicated commission to show His light in the marketplace.
Genesis 2:7 KJV says, And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
the soul
Here we believe that the soul comprises the mind, will, and emotions. The soul is “you” and houses your personality and intellect. A life transformation and soul cure occur when the finished work of Jesus Christ has regenerated your heart, and your mind begins to renew when bathed in the truth of God’s Word.
As The Soul Coach, I aim to help you uncover your soul’s depths, issues, questions, concerns, and layers and nourish it through the Word of God, prayer, obedience, faith, wisdom, and action. When we work through this intricate component of our makeup, we can discover how there is no life or business success void of dealing with the matters of the soul. By understanding what it takes to live a soul-healthy life in Christ, you will unlock a deeper connection with the Triune Godhead—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost—and experience the abundant life Jesus promises for your life that flows over into your business.
WHY THE SOUL NEEDS A CURE
The root of a soul cure. Before Adam ate the fruit in the Garden of Eden, he freely communicated and communed with the presence of God. His spirit, which once communicated with God freely, became shut off from God, and he began operating from the knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God Adam free will, but God never wanted to have to banish him from the Garden of Eden. But we must be born-again (saved) and given a new nature (2 Cor 5:17). Before salvation, the spirit is closed off to communion and fellowship with the God of all heaven and earth.
Genesis 3:3-4 NKJV says, And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
The Word of God, “lest you die” became a reality—spiritually speaking. When Adam ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, death passed on to him and his wife, Eve, and their days on earth eventually expired as the original sin and death began to work through his spirit, soul, and members—the flesh.
the disobedient soul
Naturally, our soul wants to rule and partner with the flesh daily. Here, the disobedience and rebellion from eating the fruit caused Adam and his wife, Eve to be fearful, naked, ashamed, and hide from God. Adam had to work harder than ever, and Eve would have childbirth pains. (Genesis 3:16-18). Their actions demonstrate how they must have instantly felt the death and separation from God’s presence in an undeniable way.
Adam, primarily, had always known and been privy to communicating with God intimately before God made Eve. After eating the fruit of death, he saw and heard things spiritually he had been protected from before. He knew something was off from the way he had always known things to be before partaking in sin against God Almighty, so he covered up and hid.
The following passages in the chapter share additional details, and in verse 6, we see where Eve gave her husband the fruit. Women must be very discerning about leading if God doesn’t lead them. We women can be more easily tempted by the tempter—Satan through our emotions—the feeling part of our soul.
A NEW BIRTH
Every person walking or who has walked the face of this earth needs to be born again of the water and the Spirit. From Adam’s actions, it’s clear that his bloodline is tainted, so everyone is born as an enemy of God until we’re made new in Christ Jesus. Congratulations if you’re a living miracle as a new creation in Christ. If you’re an unbeliever in the reality of Jesus Christ saving us from sin, I pray that the Holy Spirit will draw your soul near to Him. We must all be free from the slavery and death of the original sin and its effects passed on through Adam’s disobedience.
God created man in His image, but you are the likeness of Adam. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness (Gen 5:3).
Since sin passed from Adam, this means the seed of Abraham was contaminated too; thus, Jews can’t even escape the judgment of sin. Abraham was not born righteous. He became righteous by faith and believing in God.
Genesis 15:6 NIV says, “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
sin and the spirit
Sin is a spiritual and eternal separation from God. Therefore, anyone who has yet to repent of their sins and be made new in Christ by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph 2:8) is walking dead. Yes, we have our human spirit, soul, and flesh—but we can’t save ourselves—we need a Savior.
Consequently, people appear alive to the natural eye, but God is a righteous judge who must judge and sentence sin. People are separated from the Lord God and are dead both in this life and eternally. The unsaved soul is dead in sin and trespasses.
Ephesians 2:1-2 NIV teaches, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”
Newsflash: Nobody can change this spiritual condition through their soulish life (feelings, intellect, and mental ascent). Your intellect, wisdom, and knowledge cannot save you from death as there is only One defeater of death, and the grave—the Man—the Lamb, Christ Jesus.
It’s in Him that we find salvation through His grace and the finished work on the cross of Calvary. To see and know God, you must repent and turn to Jesus by faith to be saved by His grace.
Romans 5:12 KJV says, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 10:9-11 KJV says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
SPIRIT AND SOUL FREEDOM
Only the blood of Jesus Christ can provide freedom to your spirit and soul. You need the kind of freedom found in Christ alone; He is the final sacrifice for sin, the perfect Lamb, and the only Mediator between you and God the Father.
Some Bible translations say Jesus atoned for our sins, but He did more than atone for our sins. The way to see it is at-one-ment as we’re no longer separated from God in our sins and trespasses. Jesus Christ is the propitiation—which is the appeasement and satisfaction. GotQuestions.org shares in What is Propitiation that, “propitiation carries the basic idea of appeasement or satisfaction, specifically toward God. Propitiation is a two-part act that involves appeasing the wrath of an offended person and being reconciled to him.”
The wages of sin is death (Romans 3:23), and only Jesus can free you from the eternal punishment of sin, which leads to an eternal burning Hell and the grave. Christ paid the price once and for all—“It is Finished” (John 19:28-30). Now you and I have a Soul Shepherd and Overseer, Peter expresses in 2:25 NIV, “For you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
THE EMPHASIS OF THE SOUL
Your soul is “you,” and it’s said to be where your mind, will, and emotions reside. The seat of the soul is where you find your heart (which is different than your soul). Got Questions teaches in What is the Heart, “For a person to be saved, then, the heart must be changed. This only happens by the power of God in response to faith. “With the heart one believes unto righteousness (Rom 10:10).”
It’s believed that it’s our spirit that’s saved and made whole. It’s the location within where the Holy Spirit resides. The soul is being saved (renewed and transformed) through the sanctification process. The soul also houses the intellect, conscious and subconscious mind, and personality. Therefore, the soul is where the mind and thinking are housed, which means that salvation isn’t a mental descent, but a spiritual new birth . It’s a belief of the heart and confession of the mouth (Rom 10:9-10).
SOUL AND FLESH
Watchman Nee taught in his book, The Spiritual Man, “Man has descended from “spirit-control” to “soul-control” and from “soul-control” to body-control.” Deeper and deeper he sinks. How pitiful it must be when the flesh gains domination.”
The soul is where we struggle with unclean, negative, and evil thoughts that God wants to cure. The soul then partners with the flesh for corrupt actions and thoughts contrary to God. We want to live from the new spirit and a cured (transformed and renewed) soul. One that’s joyful, healthy, spiritually mature, and self-controlled.When we keep our eyes on Christ and follow His ways and teachings, the enemy of our soul can’t tempt and distract us to evil so quickly from the things of God.
Toxic relationships, jealousy, money, material things, entertainment, habitual bad habits, and gossip are acts of the soul and flesh. All the things we were before we knew Christ, “such were some of you” (1 Cor 6:11).
When you are born again, the Holy Spirit immediately takes up residence in your spirit and makes it alive (no more walking dead). However, the soul (you) is to undergo a renovation through sanctification.
Christ begins His sanctifying work in you, but the beauty of the transformational process occurs when you surrender to God fully. Think of the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly. Oh, the sweetness of surrender. The willingness to surrender and allow the Holy Spirit’s power to overflow into your soul is a daily decision—actually minute by minute. The soul work then follows.
I came up with a definition of soul work. Soul work is submission and co-laboring with the Holy Spirit’s sanctification to remove unaligned habits and strongholds plaguing the soul for transformation.
A monthly soul check-up, helps you to check in on nurturing your soul, which deserves regular care and attention. Your participation in doing the work to overcome the issues is essential as faith without works is dead (Jas 2:26). I share more about soul work in my book The Acceleration Cure.

Here is a short example list of soul issues, habits, patterns, and strongholds people may still struggle with as Christians:
- Trauma from the past (abuse of any form)

- Sexual Sin/Lust (pornography, fornication, adultery, homosexuality)
- Idol Worship (anything you place before God)
- Depression and Suicidal Thoughts
- Fear, Anxiety, Insecurity, and Rejection

- Complaining, Gossip, Backbiting
- Jealousy and Covetousness
- Poor Decision-making (finances, relationships, friends, substance abuse)
- Double-mindedness, Doubt, and Worry
Soul Support
The Father placed us in a beautiful family of believers to support your conversion. This means connecting with others in the family—Christ’s Church is necessary for spiritual growth. The connection provides the extra help and protection we need to live and grow in this life by faith. You need additional assistance from someone who can disciple, counsel, coach, or mentor you with the Word of Christ for accountability. The body of Christ needs you, too.
As the Soul Coach, I assist business owners in becoming soul-healthy leaders. However, I always encourage you to strengthen your Word life with daily Scripture reading, prayer, and meditation. Your spiritual disciplines will bless your soul work, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you.
Also, locate Scripture passages that focus on the areas where you need the most help. For example, find Scriptures on anger and love if you struggle with anger. When you study the passages, you aim to know the Lord and build a close connection with Him.
A HEALTHY SOUL
A cured, free, joyful, and healthy soul involves doing your part in growing spiritually. It involves loving the Lord, learning of and about Him, submission, prayer, meditation, and reading/studying the Word. If not, you will find it challenging to walk the Christian walk by faith and live this life as God designed it. Your business will be a mess, too, because your soul isn’t well. Most of the soul issues I listed above (unless God snatches them away at conversion) will not go away on their own. Therefore, keeping your affection on Christ and walking in the Spirit daily allows God to lead you into a soul-transforming life.
For instance, God freed the Israelites from the bondage of 400 years of slavery in Egypt. However, an entire generation died in the wilderness within 40 years because they refused to be led by God to the Promised Land. He freed them, but they rebelled against Him. Can someone say—soul work?
They were set free, but they remained prisoners in their souls. They didn’t fully trust God; they didn’t have the faith of Joshua and Caleb. Joshua and Caleb leaned in and trusted God fully (spirit and soul). By faith, they were ready to possess the land and surrender themselves to be led and instructed by God. God put the mind of Christ in us, but it’s up to us to abide in Him, pursue it, feast on it, and grow into it.
The soul has its own will and is used to independence and self-reliance; when it gets so enmeshed with the flesh, and its passions—it will fight against the newly living spirit in you.
Since the Israelites didn’t trust God, it means they were double-minded and chose rebellion instead.
YOUR SOUL LEADER
To be a soul-healthy leader, consider who you’re following. Who’s leading your soul? Will you, someone else, a spouse, an idol, or the Lord Jesus lead your soul? If no one ever asked you that question, as your Soul Coach—I must ask. Soulful, it’s time for you to make a clear-cut decision. Do you want to follow Baal (the worldly system) or Jesus Christ?
Consider who’s in charge of your business—you or the Lord?
If you follow Jesus, please make it known and declare it through your character, decisions, habits, and lifestyle. You’ll feel better once you build a life with Him in every area. Don’t be like the Israelites who died off in the wilderness without possessing the promise. Christ calls us to live out this life by faith, and you can do it.
As a business owner, the time is over to stop faltering between two sides.

IN CONCLUSION
Although Adam sinned, the Second Adam—Jesus Christ, is the only cure for your soul because you can’t fix your issues apart from His divine and supernatural healing balm. He’s the only one who can save the soul from perishing eternally. His ordained sanctification will bless your journey of soul transformation and eliminate double-mindedness. The beauty of how God created us is that He gave us free will.
Therefore, your decision to let God be the Lord in your life catalyzes your soul healing. I can tell you that life is miserable when you are double-minded and wavering between two sides. Our Father God loves us and wants the best for His children. Please learn how valuable you are in Christ and how irreplaceable He is to you. Nothing you seek will ever be more significant than what God can give—a cure 4 the soul.
Soul WORK Actions:
Surrender your life to God fully and make every effort to walk in His ways.
Schedule dedicated time to spend with God. Time alone with God will transform your soul.
Seek God first in your decision-making. Never leave Him out of anything. A firm decision is an essential step in developing an intimate relationship.
